Rectified vs Non Rectified Tile

Rectified vs Non Rectified Tile

Rectified Tile endures a mechanical process that straightens the tile edges to ensure the Tile is perfectly squared. Therefore all the tiles are exactly the same size and can be laid with a minimum grout joint, 1/16 an inch. Rectified Tile is more expensive. The least expensive Rectified Tile I have seen is $5.50 per foot.

As you can see, this tile is perfectly straight. The Owner of this home wanted the smallest grout line, 1/16 of an inch.

We just installed this tile, so please overlook the grout haze. This tile is installed with a 1/16 of an inch grout joint. This tile cost $6.49 per foot.

Non-rectified Tile, are tile with natural, uneven edges which require a wider grout join, usually 1/8 of an inch. These tiles range in price from $.59 cents to $5.50 per foot. They are a lot less expensive than Rectified Tile.

As you can see, this tile is not straight at all. Pay attention to the edges – The edges are not straight at all.

We just installed this tile with a 1/8 of an inch grout joint . We utilized gray grout and the results are amazing. Tile looks great. Please overlook the grout haze. This tile cost $2.29 per foot.

My opinion

Honestly I like grout joints. A well laid tile with a 1/8 of an inch grout joint is beautiful and less costly than buying more expensive Rectified Tile.
